I had the pleasure of seeing The Great Gatsby for the second time last week, although, this time it was spoiled by some very silly girls who persisted on providing inane commentary for the entire film. I haven’t got that far into the book but, from what I have read the film seems to be a very true reflection, sometimes word for word.
The extravagance of the costumes, colour and shots really immerse you into Gatsby’s world. The film has received mixed reviews; and I for one think the soundtrack, produced by Jay-Z, is an awkward and uncomfortable fit. But, the success of Leonardo DiCaprio’s performance of Jay Gatsby is something which is undoubtable. He is charming, endearingly awkward and extremely convincing in his infatuation with Daisy Buchanan, played by Carey Mulligan.
If you haven’t seen it yet, I would encourage you to. It’s a beautiful production and an ambitious adaptation of F Scott Fitzgerald’s timeless, classic novel. I just hope that you don’t experience the disturbance of constant chatter.
In the meantime here is a gorgeous gif of Leo as The Great Gatsby himself.
